Medical Research Fellowship
About the Fellowship
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM) Medical Fellow Research Program was established in 2005. The Fellowship program supports the work of a medical scholar in the area of commercial motor vehicle driver health and safety.
Areas of particular interest include:
- Use of drug/alcohol by commercial truck and bus drivers
- Medications and driving
- Driving with cardiovascular disease, diabetes, neurological disorders, renal disease, seizure disorders, sleep disorders and other acute medical conditions
- Hearing impairment and driving?
- Musculoskeletal disease and injury among truck and bus drivers
- Injury and return-to-work issues among truck and bus drivers
- Psychiatric illness and driving
- Monocular vision impairment and commercial truck/bus operation
