Complaint Center FAQs

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration provides answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs) about the National Consumer Complaint Database.

If you have additional NCCDB-related questions, call our toll-free hotline for assistance at 1-888-DOT-SAFT (1-888-368-7238), available from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Monday through Friday, Eastern Time.

How to File a Complaint

The National Consumer Complaint Database (NCCDB) is a resource for consumers, commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers, and industry professionals to report safety violations related to the CMV industry. If you’ve experienced problems with a moving company, truck or bus company, broker, auto transporter, or other entities within the CMV industry, you can submit a complaint through this system.

Eligible Complaints

The National Consumer Complaint Database helps identify motor carriers (bus, truck, and moving companies), brokers, and other entities who may be violating federal motor carrier safety regulations. FMCSA uses complaints, along with other sources, to make decisions about which companies to investigate. FMCSA accepts complaints related to issues involving the commercial motor vehicle (CMV) industry. Eligible complaints are further outlined below.
