Can a Canada/Mexico-domiciled motor carrier’s driver manually enter the vehicle identification number (VIN) for the power unit if the ELD is unable to automatically retrieve the VIN from the engine?

Question: Can a Canada/Mexico-domiciled motor carrier’s driver manually enter the vehicle identification number (VIN) for the power unit if the ELD is unable to automatically retrieve the VIN from the engine?

Answer: Yes. The driver can add the VIN manually if the ELD cannot retrieve the VIN from the vehicle engine data.
