Move into Motus

FMCSA is proud to release Motus: USDOT Registration System to the commercial motor vehicle community. This modernized motor carrier registration system is major step forward in FMCSA’s efforts to strengthen oversight, reduce fraud, improve efficiency, and better serve America’s trucking industry.

Moving forward, Motus will replace outdated systems and serve as your home base to easily apply for and manage registrations, view and update information, and control authorized access to your company account.

Let's Get Started

Access Motus at motus.dot.gov to apply for a new USDOT Number, operating authority, or other applicable registration, manage your registrations, and more.

Step 1:

Create User Profile

Create a user profile and complete identity verification to log into the system. User profiles are unique to one person and allow companies to manage access and permissions to company accounts.

Step 2:

Create or Claim a Company Account

Complete registration actions easily and efficiently from your centralized Motus company account. Company officials can claim their existing USDOT Number to streamline account creation.

Step 3:

Register and Manage Registrations

Register for a USDOT Number and/or operating authority, manage your registrations and business information, submit biennial updates, and more in Motus.

New Registrants

I don't have a USDOT Number and am new to the FMCSA registration process.

Not sure what type of registration you need? Check out our USDOT Wizard, where you can answer a short set of targeted questions to find out if you only need a USDOT Number or need both a USDOT Number and operating authority.

When you’re ready, visit Motus to create a user profile and new company account, then apply for what you need. New registrations in Motus follow a similar flow to the USDOT Wizard, so you’ll know what to expect once you get started with registration.

Existing Registrants

I have a USDOT Number and am ready to get started in Motus.

If you already have a USDOT Number, the company official can quickly set up a new Motus company account by linking to and “claiming” the existing record. This imports your company data, allows you to verify your business information, and saves you from entering everything manually.

Use the same Login.gov email that you used as the company official in the FMCSA Portal to claim a USDOT Number. Then, simply review, update, and certify to get moving in Motus.
