This pocket guide provides a quick look at major statistics related to large truck and bus census data, inspection and enforcement data, crash data, and FMCSA's data quality efforts.
Eligible Complaints
The National Consumer Complaint Database helps identify motor carriers (bus, truck, and moving companies), brokers, and other entities who may be violating federal motor carrier safety regulations. FMCSA uses complaints, along with other sources, to make decisions about which companies to investigate. FMCSA accepts complaints related to issues involving the commercial motor vehicle (CMV) industry. Eligible complaints are further outlined below.
Senior Policy Advisor
Michael Hampton

Michael Hampton serves as Senior Policy Advisor for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) at the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT). He was appointed to this role in February 2025 and advises on all policy and safety related matters.
Mr. Hampton previously served as Special Assistant at the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) where he was the principal advisor to a Board Member for all policy, communications, and operational decisions. Prior to his work at the NTSB, he held policy positions in the U.S. Senate and risk advisory roles in the private sector.
Mr. Hampton earned a J.D. from the University of Kansas School of Law and a B.S. in Finance from Kansas State University.
