Request a USDOT Personal Identification Number (PIN)
Overview
A USDOT PIN (Personal Identification Number) is an 8-character code (letters and numbers) provided by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) that allows motor carriers to access and manage their USDOT records and information. PLEASE NOTE that effective April 27, 2020, the MC and MX PINs have been eliminated. FMCSA has consolidated its PIN functions into one USDOT PIN. This PIN is received at registration and may be requested from FMCSA if it is lost or forgotten.
Make sure you have your company info handy (i.e., EIN, USDOT) and visit the FMCSA’s Safety and Fitness Electronic Records (SAFER) System, where you will have two options to receive your PIN:
- Immediately delivered to the e-mail or cell phone currently on file
- Mailed via USPS (7-10 business day) to the physical address on file
What is the Format of the USDOT Number PIN?
The USDOT Number PIN follows this format: NLNNLLNL, where:
- N = Number
- L = Letter
