CCFP Data Collection

Crash investigators, truck inspectors, and interviewers play a critical role in the crash response procedures currently carried out by State and local jurisdictions. To the extent possible, the CCFP will leverage these existing procedures, collaborating with State and local partners that participate in the study.
The CCFP is preparing for an efficient, authoritative study by learning about States’ data collection efforts, establishing the participation requirements, and creating a technical framework to streamline data collection. This framework brings together data collected through existing forms and processes, such as police crash reports, post-crash investigations, and post-crash reconstructions, to consolidate an unprecedented set of data.
A State CMV Data Analyst will coordinate the data collection, quality control, and entry into the CCFP database. A CCFP Interviewer will collect additional data from drivers, motor carriers, and other parties involved in the crash, protecting confidential information.
Most of these existing data collection efforts, as well as new positions like a CMV Data Analyst, are carried out by State agencies and are eligible for funding through the Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program (MCSAP) grant.
