Understanding International CMV Driver Compensation Methods
Goal
This project will study the impacts of various driver compensation methods on overall safety and retention rates through expert briefings, data gathering, and possibly case studies or interviews with relevant industry and academic experts.
Summary
This study has been contracted with the National Academies of Science's Transportation Research Board, as required by Section 23022 of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL). The TRB will select a committee of experts to gather data, receive expert briefings, possibly conduct interviews or case studies, and make final recommendations and decisions regarding the impact of driver compensation methods on driver safety and retention. This study will look specifically at long-haul trucking and intercity bus operations.
Impacts
This project will improve our understanding of impacts of compensation on driver safety and retention rates, and provide corresponding recommendations.
