Connecticut DMV Credential Extension
NOTICE OF EXTENSION OF EXPIRATION DATE OR PERIOD OF VALIDITY OF LICENSES, PERMITS AND IDENTITY CARDS ISSUED BY THE STATE OF CONNECTICUT DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES
On March 10, 2020, the Governor of the State of Connecticut Ned Lamont issued a Declaration of Civil Preparedness and Public Health Emergencies, pursuant to sections 19a-131a and 28-9 of the Connecticut General Statutes, in response to the global pandemic COVID 19. Under the authority of sect ion 14-Sc of the Connecticut General Statutes and with the approval of the Governor, the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles Sibongile Magubane hereby extends the expiration date or period of validity of driver's licenses, permit s and non-driver identity cards (credentials) issued by or on behalf of the Department of Motor Vehicles (DM V). DMV is taking this action to safeguard the public by reducing the number of people who appear in person at DMV offices. All late fees that normally would be associated with a late credential renewal will be waived during the effective time period.
The extension will apply only to credentials that expire from March 10, 2020 through June 8, 2020. Each affected credential holder will have an additional ninety (90) days from his or her expiration date to renew the credential without penalty. Law enforcement personnel will be notified of the dates of implementation and termination of the extension.
Dated this 12th day of March, 2020
Sibongile Magubane
Commissioner of Motor Vehicles
