RE: Declaration of Civil Preparedness Emergency

Dear Secretary Thomas:

Yesterday, August 18, Connecticut experienced historic flooding due to severe rainstorms in portions of the state. The flooding washed out bridges and roads, and damaged or destroyed structures throughout the state. Hundreds of evacuations and swift water rescues were necessary to remove people from dangerous areas and shelters were opened. Emergency work was and is required to protect the life and property of Connecticut residents. Therefore, I hereby proclaim a state of civil preparedness emergency pursuant to Connecticut General Statutes Section 28-9.

I am filing this proclamation with you under my hand and seal on this 19th day of August, 2024.

Ned Lamont
Governor
