Readout of FMCSA Press Conference in Delanco, NJ Highlighting Millions in Grant Funding for Roadway Safety
DELANCO, NJ - The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) hosted a press conference today, at the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission’s (NJMVC) Road Testing Location in Delanco, NJ, to highlight how more than $140 million in FMCSA grant funding will be used nationwide to enhance roadway safety. The grant awarded to NJMVC will support procurement and use of mobile CDL testing units that will enhance access to CDL testing for those in rural parts of New Jersey and support community outreach and education initiatives to promote CDL programs. FMCSA was joined by partners from the NJMVC and the New Jersey School Bus Contractors Association as well as state and community leaders.

“We want CDL testing to be accessible to anyone who is willing to learn and earn that driver’s license. Commercial Driver’s License Program Implementation grants can help break down barriers for people seeking to earn or renew their CDL. There’s no better example of that than the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission’s mobile testing unit.”
- Vinn White, Deputy Administrator, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, U.S. Department of Transportation
“We create a lot of great programs in Trenton and in DC, but getting them out to the people who need them and can utilize them is a challenge. These mobile testing units that are going to be dispatched all over the state are going to help ensure that our CMV drivers have the knowledge to drive safely on our roads and turnpikes, particularly in my district, which includes large rural areas.”
- Representative Andrea Katz, New Jersey State Assembly (District 8)
“With this funding, we expect to be able to improve access to CDL skills and knowledge testing by bringing these services directly to our communities, especially those that are more rural and underserved, and to our veterans and veteran families.”
- Latrecia Littles-Floyd, Acting Chief Administrator, New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission
“This is going to be a gamechanger for our delivery of CDL testing across the state of New Jersey. While we currently offer bulk skills testing remotely outside of our road test facilities, this grant will enable us to also offer knowledge tests and to bring our testing capabilities to communities anywhere in the state on a regular basis.”
- Jim Ferguson, Director of Agency Central Operations, New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission
