What is the FMCSA Portal, how do I set up an account and how do I reset my password?

Question:
What is the FMCSA Portal, how do I set up an account and how do I reset my password?
Answer:

The FMCSA Portal provides single sign-on access to FMCSA systems via a single password and user ID. It enables Federal, State, and industry users to access the Agency's existing information systems with a single set of credentials and have easy access to safety data about the companies regulated by the FMCSA.   Motor carriers, brokers, freight forwarders, intermodal equipment providers, and cargo tank facilities will have secure access to their company information on file with the FMCSA.

Definitions of the 2 types of Portal accounts:

  • Company Official Account - A person who will have full access to company information, and the ability and responsibility of approving and managing account requests from Company Employees. Note: There will be only one Company Official for each USDOT#. To request a Company Official user account, you must have the PIN associated with your USDOT#. If you do not have a PIN, or do not know your PIN, go to the USDOT PIN Request.
  • Access Company Information Account - A person who needs access to limited company information, but is not responsible for managing accounts or other users.
