- Extension of Credentials
- Waiver of IRP Requirements for Out-of-State Carriers
- Extension of Credentials
In response to COVID 19, the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is extending the expiration date of certain licenses, instruction permits and identity cards (credentials). The DMV is taking this action in order to reduce the number of people who appear in person to conduct transactions at DMV offices.
The holder of every credential with an expiration date from March 10 through June 8, 2020, will have his or her expiration date extended by ninety (90) days. This message will be available to Connecticut law enforcement officers through COLLECT, and nationwide through an NLETS teletype.
Currently, this extension does not apply to registrations. Approximately 92% of registration renewals are done remotely, either on-line, by phone or through the mail. If this situation changes, DMV will send an updated Bulletin.
- Waiver of IRP requirements for Out-of-State Carriers
DMV is waiving the requirements of the International Registration Plan for commercial motor vehicles based outside of Connecticut that are properly registered and entering Connecticut for the specific purpose of responding to the emergency, including vehicles transporting relief supplies and equipment, and vehicles used by relief agencies. This waiver will be in effect for ninety (90) days, beginning March 12, 2020.
