Arizona Declaration of Emergency - Greer Fire

STATE Of ARIZONA
DECLARATION OF EMERGENCY

Greer Fire

WHEREAS, on May 13, 2025, a fast-moving wildfire, subsequently named the Greer Fire, started within Apache County, near the community of Greer, and rapidly expanded due to high winds; and

WHEREAS, the fire has burned more than 12,615 acres, damaged homes, structures, and infrastructure; and

WHEREAS, the fire continues to bum and threaten the community; and

WHEREAS, wind conditions continue to blow from the community of Greer towards the towns of Eagar and Springerville; and

WHEREAS, more than 500 firefighting personnel and equipment are currently engaged in wildfire suppression efforts and a Complex Incident Management Team (CIMT) has assumed control of operations to enhance coordinated response efforts; and

WHEREAS, mandatory evacuations have been issued for the community of Greer and areas of the Town of Eagar, as well as 26 Bar Ranch and the South Fork area; and

WHEREAS, the State of Arizona has activated the State Emergency Operations Center; and

WHEREAS, the Towns of Eagar and Springerville have declared a joint State of Emergency; and

WHEREAS, Apache County has declared a State of Emergency; and

WHEREAS, the fire has resulted in a Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG) declaration on May 14, 2025; and

WHEREAS, the Governor is authorized to declare an emergency pursuant to A.R.S.
§26-303(D).

NOW, THEREFORE I, Katie Hobbs, Governor of the State of Arizona, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and Laws of the State, do hereby determine that this situation justifies a declaration of a State of Emergency, pursuant to A.R.S. § 26-303(0), and I do hereby:

a.    Declare that a State of Emergency exists in Apache County, due to fire, effective May 13, 2025, and continuing; and

b.    Direct that the sum of $200,000 from the general fund be made available to the Director of the Arizona Division of Emergency Management to be expended in accordance with A.R.S. § 35-192, A.A.C. RS-2-301 to 321, and Executive Order 79-4; and
 
c.    Direct that the State of Arizona Emergency Response and Recovery Plan be used to direct and control state and other assets and authorize the Director of the Arizona Division of Emergency Management to coordinate state assets.
