Data Repository (Naturalistic Driving and Other Datasets)

Goal:

To create a permanent, secure data repository for data collected during Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) research and technology studies.

Background:

FMCSA has funded numerous field operational tests (FOTs) where there were substantial amounts of data collected under “naturalistic driving” conditions. Furthermore, there are new larger-scale, general-purpose naturalistic driving FOTs underway. This existing and expanding rich data library is considered to be very potent for further research by external researchers. In addition to data collected in an FOT, FMCSA collects data used in other research and technology projects. FMCSA will house all of this data in the Data Repository for use in future research studies.

Summary:

The goal of this project is to develop a secure Data Repository that can host data sets used in various FMCSA research and technology initiatives and to develop standards and supporting documents for a third party to be able to leverage collected data in past, ongoing, and future studies conducted by FMCSA.

Outcomes:

A secure Data Repository to house naturalistic driving and other data and standards and supporting documents for a third party to be able to leverage data collected in FMCSA projects.

Milestones:

October 2016: Kick-off meeting.
September 2017: Final annual report; year-end briefing.
April 2017: Report on data repository.
