†Beginning with data for 2016, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) implemented changes to revise vehicle classification based on gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR), which reclassified 329 light pickup trucks as large trucks.  Due to this methodology change, comparisons of the 2016 (and later) Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) large truck data with prior years should be performed with caution.
Notes: Blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.01 grams per deciliter (g/dL) or above (BAC=0.01+) indicates driver alcohol involvement. BAC of 0.08 g/dL or greater (BAC=0.08+) indicates driver intoxication. Estimates of alcohol-impaired driving are generated using BAC values reported to the FARS and imputed BAC values when they are not reported. A large truck is defined as a truck with a GVWR greater than 10,000 pounds. A passenger car is defined as a motor vehicle used primarily for carrying passengers, including convertibles, sedans, and station wagons. A light truck is defined as a truck with a GVWR of 10,000 pounds or less, including pickups, vans, truck-based station wagons, and sport utility vehicles.
