ACE Program: Testing and Demonstration Activities
Project Goal:
To plan and conduct ADAS and ADS testing, data collection and analysis, as well as stakeholder outreach activities, such as vehicle demonstrations, conference exhibits in conjunction with FMCSA's Automated CMV Evaluation (ACE) Program. The ACE test trucks will be used as test vehicles for FMCSA research opportunities and demonstrations to understand the safety and effectiveness of automation in commercial motor vehicles and to engage stakeholders
Background:
FMCSA has three Class 8 tractors and trailers that have been upfit with SAE automation Level 2 and 3 technology. As FMCSA considers the growing use of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and automated driving systems (ADS) by commercial fleets and drivers, it will be critical to understand the parameters under which these systems can be used safely, along with limitations imposed by associated human factors.
Summary:
This funding will support FMCSA's efforts over a 3-year period to conduct research in accordance with the Automated Truck Safety Research Plan. Work will include test events, demonstrations in conjunction with State and Field partners, and potential conference events.
