Washington Memo 03/22/20
STATE OF WASHINGTON
DEPARTMENT OF LICENSING
PO Box 9228 Olympia, Washington 98507-9228
March 20, 2020
To whom it may concern:
The Governor of the State of Washington has issued Proclamation 20-05 through 20-24 proclaiming a State of Emergency for all counties throughout the state of Washington as a result of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Under the authority of these proclamations, the Governor has directed state agencies and departments to do everything reasonably possible to support the implementation of the Washington State Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan.
Under this authority, the State of Washington requests the following support from participating jurisdictions and law enforcement communities:
- The expiration of an apportioned registration under the International Registration Plan, with expiration dates of March 31, 2020 and April 30, 2020, are hereby suspended and the expiration date is extended to May 31, 2020;
- New Washington vehicles registered under the International Registration Plan beginning March 20, 2020, will be issued Temporary Evidence of Apportioned Registration (TEAR) in lieu of physical license plates as necessary. This TEAR will be issued for a period not to exceed sixty (60) days in accordance with The Plan, Section 620;
- Additionally, we ask that all IFTA jurisdictions waive and delay enforcement action on Washington based vehicles operating in your jurisdiction without IFTA decals and licenses as we are unable to ensure that licensees will have the proper physical credential requirements.
Carriers operating under these extensions and/or exemptions shall carry a copy of this notice in their vehicle while operating. This exemption is valid until May 31, 2020, or upon further notice of the Department, whichever occurs first.
Sincerely,
/s/
