Medical Examiner’s Requirement to Upload Examination Results

Function to Submit Results of CMV Driver Exams to the National Registry

The functionality for certified medical examiners to submit results of CMV driver examinations into the National Registry was restored on June 22, 2018. At this time, only certified medical examiners are able to access and submit exam results. FMCSA is currently working on the functionality for designated medical examiner administrative assistants and third-party administrators to submit exam results on behalf of certified medical examiners. Once this function is available, FMCSA will email certified medical examiners.

Reporting Daily and Backlog Examination Results

Daily reporting

Although access to submit results of CMV driver examinations has been restored for MEs, FMCSA recognizes the challenge for medical examiners to upload examinations without support of designated MEAAs and Third Party Organizations. Therefore, FMCSA is not requiring medical examiners to immediately upload daily results of the examinations under the Medical Examiner’s Certification Integration final rule extension until all reporting functionality is restored.

Backlog reporting

In addition, FMCSA is not requiring medical examiners to immediately upload results of the examinations performed during the National Registry outage. Instead, FMCSA will publish a Federal Register notice announcing that medical examiners will have an extended period of time to enter results of examinations performed during the National Registry outage, without penalties. In an effort to limit the time burden on the medical examiners, we will ensure that medical examiners have ample time to upload results of these exams. Once the Federal Register notice is published, FMCSA will email all certified medical examiners.
