Director of Communications and Public Affairs

Kyle Bonini

Kyle Bonini serves as the Director of Communications and Public Affairs for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.  As a member of FMCSA’s senior leadership team, Kyle is responsible for directing the Agency’s strategic communications, including media relations, safety publications, marketing, outreach and special events.  Kyle oversees the Agency’s “Our Roads, Our Safety” partnership, the “Protect Your Move” consumer fraud awareness program and other significant national campaigns.

Prior to joining FMCSA in November 2018, Kyle spent nearly a decade in strategic communications and management roles on Capitol Hill, serving on the staff of two Members of Congress.  Most recently, Kyle served as Chief of Staff for U.S. Congressman Dave Trott of Michigan, where he was the chief communications and policy advisor, managed a team of legislative assistants and caseworkers in two office locations, and oversaw a $1.4 million annual budget.  He has also worked in the private sector, focusing on digital communications, email marketing, and online advertising.

Kyle is focused on supporting FMCSA’s critical safety mission and to build on the Agency’s efforts of outreach, communication, and education. He believes that strengthening outreach to stakeholders, partnerships, safety advocates, drivers, and the public, will continue to help support FMCSA’s mission to reduce crashes and promote safety on our nation’s roads.

A native of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Kyle has a bachelor’s degree from Northern Michigan University.  He lives in Northern Virginia with his wife, Jessica, and daughter, Madelyn.
