Commercial Driver's License Program Implementation Grants

Purpose

To improve highway safety by ensuring that States are in compliance with the Federal regulations that require drivers of large trucks and buses to be qualified to obtain and hold the commercial driver’s license necessary to operate those vehicles.

Authorization

49 U.S.C. § 31104 (2016), 49 U.S.C. § 31313 (2018), as amended by the Fixing America's Surface Transportation Act (FAST Act), Pub. L. No. § 114-94, §§ 5101(c) and 5104 (2015);

Appropriations

Continuing Appropriations Act, 2021 and Other Extensions Act (2020) ( P.L. 116-159),

Statute

49 U.S.C. §§ 31311, 31313 (2006), as amended.

Grantees

States and the District of Columbia. For High Priority and Emerging Issues funding, eligible applicants include States, local governments, and other persons capable of conducting eligible work that is national in scope and benefit.
