The TACT program uses a combination of effective messages and outreach activities coupled with targeted enforcement waves in selected high-risk traffic areas to build awareness and to educate motorists about safe driving behaviors around large trucks. Some examples of education and awareness activities include radio ads, press events, posters, road signs, and truck wraps. An example of enforcement activities include high-visibility ticketing in select corridors by law enforcement officers. Evaluation activities thus far have included reviewing ticket data from officer citations, as well as observing driver behaviors via traffic cameras. To ensure success of their TACT programs, T-SPEN States have secured the skills and expertise of law enforcement, communications specialists, evaluators, and key State, local, and industry partners.

Using the TACT e-Toolkit
FMCSA has developed an e-Toolkit to help States create the education and outreach tools necessary to successfully conduct a high-traffic enforcement program. We have also created individual State e-Toolkits so others can obtain creative ideas the implementations of States that have implemented TACT programs.
