Data Quality Technical Assistance to States
Numerous activities include: (1) Monthly Monitoring of state Data Quality, which is a detailed monthly assessment of the quality of state reported commercial motor vehicle crash and inspection data, including: measuring progress towards achieving quarterly state data quality rating standards, analyzing current and historical MCMIS and DataQs management reports, and providing current status reports and historical trend analysis of motor carrier safety data quality, (2) state Safety Data Quality (SSDQ) Map maintenance and enhancements (The State Safety Data Quality [SSDQ] map is an evaluation tool that examines the completeness, timeliness, accuracy, and consistency of state-reported large truck and bus crash and roadside inspection data in the FMCSA Motor Carrier Management Information System [MCMIS] and displays the results on a color-coded map of the United States with drill-down capabilities. The SSDQ methodology compares the data quality of state-reported crash and roadside inspection data to standards set by FMCSA. It currently consists of five performance measures and one overriding performance indicator. Each state receives a rating of “Good,” “Fair,” or “Poor” for each measure, indicator, and overall rating. The output from this evaluation is a list of states and their corresponding ratings on data reporting. This evaluation is updated quarterly to reflect improvements and/or deterioration in state crash and roadside inspection reporting.), (3) Contract administration support for the cooperative agreements (Once cooperative agreements are awarded by FMCSA, they will be assumed by Volpe for the maintenance and administration of the award.), and (4) Operations managers to be primary contacts with states and will provide over-site and guidance to the states in the areas of data quality, training, technical assistance, etc.
