Follow-on Research with Large Truck Crash Causation Data
FMCSA will award through Volpe several contracts to consulting firms or universities for research using the LTCCS database. Research subjects will deal with areas of interest to FMCSA, including fatigue, speed, distraction, vehicle condition, and environmental conditions that the study found were factors in many crashes. The research projects should be awarded in early 2007, and results of the projects should be ready in late 2007 and 2009. Funding for this research in FY 2007 is available at Volpe. If additional areas of fruitful research become evident, future funding will be required.
