As a participant in the COMPASS Pilot, you are also a participant in a broader exercise to help fulfill the promise of E-Government to the American people. Over time, and thanks to the work we are currently doing, E-Government will make a wide variety of Government and private online services available to users of E-Authentication credentials.
These services will be made available by what is called the E-Authentication Federation. The Federation is an alliance of Government agencies (including the Department of Transportation) and private industry partners led by the General Services Administration (GSA), who are implementing common solutions for providing and managing online access to information and applications. The Federation is committed to providing access that is safe, simple, and secure.
In the coming months, new sites and services will be made available to E-Authentication participants around the country. While we anticipate that you will be able to use your E-Authentication credential (user ID and password) on these sites, it is possible that you may need to provide additional information to use some of these services. The intent, however, is to provide universal access through a single credential to E-Authentication-enabled applications. Details will be forthcoming as we and other Federation members proceed towards deployment.
