[48161] Instructor Development - General Hazardous Materials

Prerequisites for Attendance: • Successful completion of the current North American Standard General Hazardous Materials/Transportation of Dangerous Goods Inspection Course. • Maintained certification as a North American Standard Level I and Hazardous Materials/Transportation of Dangerous Goods, Other Bulk Packaging and Cargo Tank inspector for the two years immediately prior to applying as an instructor. • Successful completion of a General Instructor Development Course approved by the applicant’s member jurisdiction. • Demonstrate knowledge of the curriculum for which they will be responsible for delivery by passing knowledge based assessment. Participants must pass with a 90%; retakes are not permitted.

Target Audience: Federal and State MCSAP personnel who are considered subject matter experts in their specific instructional position.

Description: This course will provide new instructors with the knowledge, skills, practices and procedures necessary so that in the course of their instruction they are better able to provide opportunities for learners to comprehend and apply technical information learned.

Objective: The course is designed to prepare new instructors to teach on behalf of the National Training Center and will focus on: • Approved methodologies and techniques. • Course delivery with emphasis on uniformity, integrity and quality of instruction. • Requirements and expectations for all Associate Staff Instructors. • Course development process and lesson plan preparation. • Classroom preparation. • Required technical elements for their specific course of instruction.

Length: 40 hours

Post-Requirements: Upon completion of the course, certified instructors must: • Remain current in their field of expertise • Actively present instruction in their topic a minimum of 4 times per year (2 out of state, 2 instate or 1 out of state 3 instate) • Complete required annual recertification course • Maintain current regulatory training requirements and certifications (as described under Prerequisites) • Maintain satisfactory evaluations
